For Patients: Refill Online

Office-use medications are medications administered by a healthcare provider in their office or healthcare facility.  Providers are able to order these medications in bulk from 503B outsourcing facilities like ours without writing any prescriptions.  This allows providers to keep an inventory of office-use medications on hand for use with different patients.  Office-use medications are required to be made pursuant to the FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, which are the same standards used to make commercially available, branded and generic medications.

Patient-specific medications, on the other hand, are medications patients self-administer or otherwise take on their own (e.g., oral capsules).  Providers are required to provide pharmacies like ours with a patient-specific prescription for these medications and then we send the medication directly to the patient.  All patient-specific medications are filled by our 503A compounding pharmacy.

503A compounding pharmacies compound prescription medications pursuant to standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia.  These pharmacies are only permitted to dispense medications for which they receive a patient-specific prescription and are limited in their ability to compound a medication before they have received a prescription for it.

503B outsourcing facilities, by contrast, manufacture prescription medications pursuant to the same Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations as pharmaceutical manufacturers that manufacture FDA approved, commercially available, branded and generic prescription medications.  Complying with cGMP means that outsourcing facilities are manufacturing (rather than compounding) medications, and as such, they fill orders (rather than prescriptions) for medications.  Orders must be placed by licensed healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, and other similar organizations and are generally for bulk quantities, although smaller orders can also be filled.  Because outsourcing facilities fill orders, they never need to receive a prescription for the medications they distribute.

We fill all orders for office-use medications received before 4 p.m. CST that same day.  Most products are sent pursuant to our standard two-day shipping, but we also offer overnight and priority overnight shipping.  For all compounded office-use medication orders, our standard two-day shipping is free.

The time it takes to compound a medication varies based upon the medication, but generally our 503A pharmacy is able to fill the prescriptions we receive within 3 to 5 business days.  If you need a prescription filled sooner than that, please let us know and we will likely be able to accommodate your expedited timing.

“Bioidentical” describes hormones that are chemically identical to endogenous human hormone structures (e.g., estradiol, testosterone). The bioidentical hormones used in our pellets are synthesized from plant sterols. Manufacturers may isolate plant sterols such as diosgenin (from yams) or stigmasterol (from soy) through solvent extraction and purification, then chemically modify them through processes like oxidation, reduction, and isomerization to produce hormones that are structurally identical to human hormones. However, the exact plant source and chemical process can vary among suppliers.

Synthetic hormones, by contrast, are dissimilar to endogenous hormones as they have a different molecular structure. They are derived from non-natural sources. This may cause differences in receptor binding, affinity, and downstream effects.

We are only able to fill orders and prescriptions for medications that we receive from licensed healthcare providers.  If you are interested in any of our medications, please consult with your healthcare provider to determine if our medications would be suitable for you.  If you would like us to help connect you with a healthcare provider that regularly uses our medications, please email us at [email protected] or call us at 940-382-6758.

At the federal level, the DEA assigns mid-level practitioners (MLPs) a DEA number only if they are legally authorized under their state’s law to prescribe, administer, or dispense controlled substances. However, having a DEA number and prescriptive authority does not automatically grant the authority to purchase or procure controlled substances directly from wholesalers, manufacturers, or outsourcing facilities.

Prescriptive authority refers to an MLP’s legal ability to write prescriptions for controlled substances. Procurement authority refers to the ability to order, purchase, and possess controlled substances directly from a licensed supplier or wholesaler.  This authority depends on several factors:

  • State law
  • DEA registration type and schedules
  • The business/practice structure under which the MLP operates

Compounding pharmacies must verify not only whether a mid-level practitioner is authorized to prescribe controlled substances, but also whether they are authorized to procure them.  Outsourcing facilities may fill office-use orders for controlled substances only if the ordering practitioner is authorized to procure such medications.

If you wish to order controlled substances, you will be required to:

  • Verify your state-specific prescriptive and procurement privileges
  • Confirm your DEA registration is current and includes the appropriate controlled substance schedules (e.g., Schedule II-V)
  • Provide proof of supervising physician or collaborative agreement, if required by your state
